Abstract
C. Taylor's view of human beings, first, insists the unity of human and nature by arguing that human action is essentially impossible without the two nature (- in/outside human). Second, it advocates the intrinsic value of two nature based on an argument that two nature can be sources of values which originate human actions. Third, it characterizes the natural capacity of human to embody value as authenticity and emphasizes that all human can live with nature when exercising their authenticity. In this way, it can supplement the limits of both (a)human-centered environmental ethics and (b)ecology-centered environmental ethics (anthropocentricism and environmental fascism), embracing the core premises of them. And it can be called “inclusive humanism” in that it is a theory that affirms not only the intrinsic value of human based on his capacity, but also the intrinsic value of external nature, which is the requirement to enable such capacity to be exercised. Taylor's humanism has the strengths of being able to extend the object of ethical consideration from human to other natural beings, as compared with (A), and to be able to awaken the unique role and ways of life of human as an ethical subject as compared with (B). In this respect, it can be the new basis of environmental ethics more convincing than two ethics.
