With the rapid growth of smart device penetration, literally millions ofapplications have appeared in app stores and so have various types of dictionaryapps. In conjunction with this flourishing of apps, this paper makes an attempt toanalyze one type of dictionary app―app dictionary, or app version of “digitizedpaper dictionary”(Svensén 2009:438). For the analysis of the features and searchfunctions, five app dictionaries are selected from Apple’s App Store: twomonolingual English dictionaries and three bilingual English-Korean /Korean-English dictionaries. Demonstrating the details of the five appdictionaries, this study presents how well dictionaries have been transferred on tothis new medium and what kinds of differences are there between the appdictionary and other forms of electronic dictionary.
