글로벌 금융위기에 따른 기업의 소유구조가 이익조정에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

초록

글로벌 금융위기는 우리나라의 회계환경에 많은 변화를 가져왔다. 특히 국내에서 외국인 투자 비중이 급격히 감소되었고, 상대적으로 높아진 대주주들의 기업에 대한 영향력에 기인한 이익조 정과 관련성도 중요한 이슈가 되었다. 본 연구는 우리나라 유가증권시장에서 글로벌 금융위기가 기업의 이익조정에 영향을 미쳤는지 와 기업의 소유구조 특성 변수중 대주주와 외국인의 변화에 따라 이익조정에 미치는 영향을 분 석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 글로벌 금융위기전후 우리나라 회계환경이 변화하였는지를 t－test분석을 통하여 살펴본 결과, 글로벌 금융위기가 우리나라 회계환경에 외국인을 낮추고 대주주을 높였으며, 재량적 발생 액에도 어느 정도는 영향을 미치는 결과를 보여주었다. 둘째, 글로벌 금융위기 기간 동안 대주주와 외국인이 이익조정에 미치는 영향과 글로벌 금융 위기가 이익조정에 미치는 영향을 회귀분석을 통하여 살펴보았다. 그 결과, 전체표본을 대상으로 한 결과에서는 글로벌 금융위기와 외국인 그리고 대주주1인은 이익조정에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 파악되었다. 다만, 특수관계자를 포함한 대주주는 유의한 양의 관련성을 나타내어 특수관 계자를 포함한 대주주 이익이 높을수록 이익조정행위가 높아지는 결과를 나타내었다. 특수관계 자를 포함한 대주주 이익이 높을수록 기업의 이익조정행위가 높아지는 결과는 코스피시장과 코 스닥시장으로 세분한 실증분석에서도 동일한 결과를 보여주고 있다. 또한 코스피시장에서만 글로벌 금융위기 더미변수가 재량적 발생액에 유의한 양의 관련성을 나타내어 글로벌 금융위기가 코스피시장에서는 이익조정을 늘리는 유인이 되었음을 확인하였다.

Abstract

The global financial crisis has brought much changes to Korean accounting environment. As the weight of foreign investment was rapidly decreased in Korea, the relations with earnings management resulted from the influence of major shareholders on companies became an important issue. This study analyzed the influence of the global financial crisis on corporate earnings management in Korean securities market, and also the influence of variables of corporate ownership structure characteristics such as major shareholders' share ratio and foreign ownership on earnings management. First, the changes in Korean accounting environment before/after the global financial crisis were examined through t－test. Regarding discretionary accruals, The global financial crisis decreased foreign ownership in Korean accounting environment and increased major shareholders' share ratio while also having influence on discretionary accruals. Second, the influence of major shareholders' share ratio and foreign ownership on earnings management and also the influence of the global financial crisis on earnings management were examined through regression analysis. The result in which corporate earnings management act was increased when the major shareholders' share ratio including affiliated person was high was also shown in the empirical analysis on KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets. Only in KOSPI market, the dummy variable of the global financial crisis showed significantly positive relations with discretionary accruals, which means that the global financial crisis became a factor of increasing earnings management in KOSPI market.
