이 글은 현재 편찬 과정 중에 있는 <연세 현대 한국어사전>(이하 <연세 현대>)의 전문용어 편찬 지침을 검토하고, 전문용어 표제어의 선정과 그 기술 방식을 다시 한 번 살펴보는 것에 목적이 있다. <연세 현대>는 말뭉치의 빈도수와 교과서, 교재 어휘 목록을 토대로 전문용어 표제어를 선정하였으며 전문영역에 해당하는 어휘라도 그것이 이미 일상 생활에서 널리 쓰이고 언중에게 잘 알려진 어휘라면 일반어로 처리했다. 전문용어의 뜻풀이는 백과사전적 풀이를 지양하고 언어사전적 풀이를 하고자 했다. 뜻풀이에서 누락될 수 있는 중요 정보들은 참고란을 통해 보충하는 방식을 취하고 있으며, 용례는 개념의 이해를 돕는 것으로 제시하고자 했다. 또한 어휘 관계를 보임으로써 동일 개념을 지칭하는 여러 가지 어휘나 서로 관련있는 어휘들의 정보를 제시하고자 했다. 그러나 전문용어 지침이 마련되어 있다 하더라도 실제 사전 편찬 과정에서는 여러 가지 문제에 직면하게 된다. 본고에서는 실제 원고 작성 과정에서 편찬자들이 마주하게 되는 여러 가지 문제를 현재 작성되고 있는 원고들을 예로 들어 살펴보았다. 사전 원고의 기본적 항목이라 할 수 있는 뜻풀이와 참고 정보, 용례를 처리하는 방식부터 시작하여 비표준형 혹은 비표준어의 처리, 사용역이 다른 비슷한말 관계 어휘들의 처리, 전문영역 표지 부여의 문제 등을 살펴보았다. 이 과정에서 사전 편찬자가 전문용어의 집필에 있어 어떠한 점들을 고려해야 할지도 논의했다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to review the guidelines for the compilation of technical term in the <Yonsei contemporary Korean Dictionary> (hereinafter <Yonsei contemporary>), which is currently in the compilation process, and to review the selection of technical term headings and their methods of writing a manuscrips. <Yonsei contemporary> selected term headings based on the frequency of corpus and textbook vocabulary lists, and treated vocabulary that corresponds to the specialty area as general language if it is already widely used in everyday life and well known to ordinary people. For writing manuscript of technical term, <Yonsei contemporary> tried to avoid encyclopedic interpretation and try to solve it in a linguistic dictionary. Important information that may be omitted from the definition is supplemented through a reference column, and the use example was intended to be presented as helping to understand the concept. In addition, by showing a vocabulary relationship, <Yonsei contemporary> tried to present information on various vocabulary words referring to the same concept or related vocabulary. However, even if technical terminology guidelines are in place, various problems are encountered in the actual dictionary compilation process. In this paper, various problems faced by compilers in the process of writing the actual manuscript were examined as examples of the manuscripts currently being written. Starting with the method of processing the basic items of the pre-manuscript, reference information, and usage, the processing of non-standard or non-standard words, processing similar language-related vocabulary with different usage areas, and the problem of labeling specialized areas were examined. In this process, we also discussed what points the lexicographer should consider in writing term.
