Abstract

This study investigates changes in the relationship between satisfaction and repurchase intention over time in the context of Smartphone usage. As a huge number of consumers replace their mobile phones, we focuses on examining dynamics between the two parties. In so doing, another focus is on investigating the relationships among attribute-level performance(brand, design, price, and spec), satisfaction, and repurchase intention. The first (T) and second (T+1) surveys are conducted to Smatphone users and we test an empirical analysis on the same respondents (n=253) at time point T and T+1. The findings show that main attribute weights that influence Smartphone usage satisfaction change over time. In particular, both brand and design are considered as key attributes when Smartphone users continually evaluate their phones over time. Interestingly, price is insignificant, whereas spec dramatically decreases over time. However, carryover effects appear significantly. From the theoretical perspective, while Mittal and colleagues' consumption system approach(1999) show that the relationship between satisfaction and behavioral intention decreases over time, the same relationship in current study significantly increases over time. Our results suggest that dynamics between satisfaction and repurchase intention depend on product categories, indicating that additional research is required. Finally, it is important to note that an introduction of both temporal and carryover effects provides managerial insights for an effective methodological approach of the better understanding of the satisfaction-repurchase intention link.
