시간연장 보육을 받는 유아의 적응 특성에 관한 연구

본 연구는 어린이집에서 시간연장 보육을 받는 유아들이 겪는 어려움과 적응 과정에 대한 문화기술적 접근을 통해 그들의 적응 특성을 밝혀 보는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위한 연구 참여자는 사랑 가득 어린이집의 시간연장 2반 교사와 영유아 10명이었으며, 이들을 대상으로 2011년 3월부터 8월까지 총 6개월 동안 참여관찰(participant observation)과 심층면담(ethnographic interview)을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 먼저 오전과 동일한 유아기관(an early childhood institution)에서 시간연장 보육을 받는 기존 유아의 보편적인 적응 특성은 ‘규칙에서 해방되는 자유로움 누리기’, '개별적인 소통의 시간 즐기기’, ‘인정해주는 동생에게 관심과 친절 베풀기’, ‘마음대로 놀이에 입장하는 동생들의 횡포에 적응하기’, ‘친구들에게 시간연장 학급의 일과에 대해 자랑하기’, ‘일찍 오신 부모님 책망하기 vs 늦게 오시는 부모님 기다리기’로 나타났다. 둘째, 기존의 유아들이 타 유아기관에서 이동해 오는 새로운 유아를 맞이할 때는 ‘낯선 구성원에 대해 견제하기’, ‘호기심을 가지고 다가가기’, ‘놀이 친구로 수용하기’의 적응 특성을 보였다. 셋째, 시간연장 보육을 받기 위해 종일반 하원 후에 또 다른 유아기관으로 이동하는 신입 유아의 적응 특성은 ‘적응 거부하기’, ‘낯선 문화를 탐색하기’, ‘사랑가득 어린이집의 구성원으로 사회화 되어가기’의 단계를 밟았다. 이러한 연구 결과는 예비 시간연장 보육교사나 현직 보육교사들에게 그들의 양육대상자인 유아를 올바르게 이해하고 유아들의 적응을 지원할 수 있도록 유용한 정보를 제공해 줄 수 있을 것이다. 또한 수요자 중심의 시간연장 보육을 운영하기 위한 정책 연구의 기초자료를 마련해 줄 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This study intends to examine adjustment characteristics of young children taking part time extended care. Ethnographic approach was conducted to describe the difficulties and adjustment process of young children taking part time extended care. Participants of this study were 10 young children and their teachers in charge of the time extended class at the Filled with Love Child Care Center located in G city. From March 2011 to August 2011, data were collected by using participant observation and ethnographic interview. Results for this study indicated the following conclusions. First, common adjustment characteristics of children receiving the time extended care at the same childhood institution were described as 'enjoying freedom from rules', ' enjoying the time of individual interactions', 'showing kindness to the younger brothers and sisters who admit them', adjustment to the arrogation of younger brothers entering the play as they please', 'showing off the time schedule of the time extended class to their friends', and ' blaming parents coming early versus waiting parents coming late. Second, existing children showed adjustment characteristics like 'checking for the strange members', ' approaching with curiosity', and ' accepting them as a play friend.', when embracing new peers from other childhood institutions. Third, new young children who moved to another childhood institution after the end of full-day class showed phase of 'rejecting adaptation', 'exploring unfamiliar cultures', 'socialized as a member of the Love Child Care Center' regarding their adjustment characteristics. This result can provide useful information for prospective teachers of time extended care and incumbent childcare teachers to clearly understand infants and their nursery subject Finally, these research findings are expected to be used as the basic information for policy research operating consumer -directed time extended care service.
