Abstract

In order to develop the Infant Self-Regulation Rating Scale, the researcher divided the components of self-regulation into cognitive self-regulation and emotion regulation. The researcher came up with the items based on researcher’s previous studies dealing with those components in terms of their sub-components, general functions, and detailed functions. Finally, the panel included of 60 childcare and early childhood education experts. They examined the goodness-of-fit of the items twice by using the Delphi method. As a result, development of the Infant Self-Regulation Rating Scale was designed with a total of 30 items, including 10 cognitive self-regulation items and 20 emotion regulation items. The rating scale also revealed a high level of validity and reliability with a .37-.76 of correlation coefficient between individual items and total scores and a .925 of Cronbach α. When the responses of the researcher group and the teacher group were compared, the two groups did not demonstrate any differences among the 27 items.
