본 연구는 유아교육에서 ‘교과’란 무엇이며, 시대적․역사적 변화에 따라 유아교육의 교과영역이 어떻게 나뉘고 통합되었는지를 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 첫째, 1차 유치원 교육과정부터 2019 개정 누리과정까지의 교과영역 변화흐름을 살펴보았다. 시대적 흐름 속 교육과정 고시 순서 및 영역구성의 변화를 통해 시대에 따라 교과영역의 중요도가 변화하며 국가교육과정에 반영되고 있음을확인할 수 있었다. 둘째, 대학에서 운영되는 유아교육학과 학부교육과정 내에서 다루는 9개 교과영역(사회, 언어, 과학, 건강, 음악, 미술, 수학, 체육, 멀티미디어)을 분석 대상으로 선정하여, 각교과에 대한 용어를 기술하고, 역사적 흐름과 목표 및 내용을 서술하면서 각 교과영역을 개괄적으로 살펴보았다. 이러한 과정을 통해 교과영역 연구의 확장과 통합적 과제의 현주소를 확인하였으며, 교과영역 연구의 흐름이 어떻게 그리고 어떠한 미래로 이어져야 하는지를 제안하였다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다.
Abstract
This study examines the concept of subject areas in early childhood education and analyzes how these areas have differentiated and integrated in response to historical and societal changes. First, the study reviews the transition of subject areas from the initial kindergarten curriculum to the 2019 revised Nuri Curriculum, revealing shifts in educational values and priorities over time through changes in curriculum announcements and domain structures. Second, nine subject areas including social studies, language, science, health, music, art, mathematics, physical education, and multimedia were selected from undergraduate early childhood education programs for detailed analysis. Each subject area was examined with respect to its terminology, historical development, goals, and content composition. This study is meaningful in that it explored directions for expanding subject area research and the challenges of an integrated approach, ultimately proposing progressive directions for future research in early childhood curriculum.
