이 글은 다인종 다문화적 현실이 제기하는 문제들과 그에 대한 다문화주의를 욕망의 관점에서 고찰하고자 했다. 다문화적 현실에는 인종주의라는 그림자가 드리워 있다는 전제에서 출발해서, 이러한 인종주의는 무의식적 욕망이 투영된 이데올로기로 작동하고 있으며 현재의 다문화주의는 인종주의의 새로운 버전에 다름 아니라는 지젝의 주장을 검토했다. 지젝에 따르면 언뜻 대립하는 것처럼 보이는 다문화주의에 대한 두 입장들, 즉 자유주의적 다문화주의와 정체성 정치의 다문화주의는 현재 지배적인 탈정치(post-politic) 지형도에 있어 동전의 양면에 불과하다. 그리고 이러한 탈정치적 지형은 세계화된 자본이 구사하는 통치성의 일환이다. 한편 이러한 파악은 다문화적 현실에 대해 실천적 주체들이 어떤 태도를 취할 수 있는가라는 문제를 낳는다. 이에 대해 라클라우는 다문화주의적 요구들을 등가의 연쇄 속에서 파악하면서, 급진 민주주의의 한 계기로 위치 짓는다. 나아가 이 글에서는 다문화주의 이데올로기와 규범, 그리고 윤리의 관계와 그 구별 가능성을 논의했다.
Abstract
This thesis tries to approach problems, which multiracial, multicultural realities raise, and illuminate multiculturalism from a different standpoint with the desire theory. Supposing that racism shadows multicultural realities, this thesis examines Žižek's assertion that racism operates as ideology on which the unconscious desire is projected and nowadays the multiculturalism is nothing other than a new version of the racism. According to Žižek, at first sight two different position about the multiculturalrism, that is, the liberal multiculturalism and the identity politics are seem to be opposed to each other but they are the same at the present hegemonic post-politic topology. And this post-politic topology is the one of the governmentalities which the globalized capital drives. In a way, this insistence bears the other problem, that is, what a conduct the practical subject could take. About it, Laclau grasps multicultural demands in the chain of equivalence, and positions those in radical democratic moments. In addition, this thesis discusses the relation between the mulicultural ideology, norm, and ethics, and how to make a distinction between them.
