헤겔의 정치철학이 2차 세계대전 이후 서유럽에서 실현된 사회국가와 친화성을 띠고 있다는 점은 널리 인정되고 있다. 그러나 헤겔의 인륜적 국가가 사회국가의 원리를 정당화하는 이론인가를 둘러싸고 논쟁이 계속되고 있다. 필자는 이 글에서 왜 헤겔의 인륜성철학이 사회국가를 정당할 수 있는 철학적 근거를 제공하고 있는지를 입증하고자 한다. 이를 위해 우선 필자는 헤겔의 인륜성 이론의 가장 기초적인 이념인 자유가 어떤 식으로 이해되어야 하는지를 다룰 것이다. 그 후에 다루어지는 것은 헤겔 시민사회 이론에 대한 서술이다. 여기에서 필자는 근대 자본주의적 시장경제의 작동논리에 대한 헤겔의 이론을 부와 빈곤의 대립 문제 그리고 이런 대립의 해결가능성에 대한 그의 다양한 모색을 사회국가의 정당화 가능성의 맥락에서 살펴볼 것이다. 마지막으로 필자는 헤겔의 인륜성철학이 어떤 점에서 사회국가의 철학적 정당화일 수 있는지에 대한 논거를 제시하고자 한다. 이 때 필자는 새로이 해석된 헤겔의 사회국가 모델이 서유럽에서 실현된 현실 사회국가 모델과 어떤 차이를 보여줄 수 있는지 입증해보고자 할 것이다. 이를 통해 우리는 헤겔의 인륜성 이론이 오늘날에도 여전히 그 현실성을 상실하지 않고 있다는 점을 알게 될 것이다.
Abstract
It is widely accepted that Hegel's political theory is akin to the principles of social state. However, debates persist on whether Hegel's ethical state is a social state. Through this thesis, the author will illustrate how Hegel's theory of ethical life justifies social state. For this, the author will first discuss how freedom - the very basis for Hegel's theory of ethical life - is to be understood. Secondly, the author will elaborate on Hegel's theory of civil society. Here, the author will discuss Hegel's theory on the mechanism of capitalistic market economy, antagonism between poverty and wealth, and how his ideas on how to resolve this antagonism can justify social state. Finally, the author will present the grounds on how Hegel's theory of ethical life can serve as philosophical justification for social state. By doing so, the author will attempt to show that Hegel's social state is a valuable theoretical asset that can overcome the limitations of conventional social state. Through this, the author will show that Hegel's theory of life still retains its significance in the present day.
