헤겔 『정신현상학』에서의 ‘자기소외된 정신으로서의 Bildung’ 연구

초록

정신의 오딧세이적 경험을 통해 궁극적으로 절대지를 지향하는 정신의 성장을 그린 『정신현상학』에서 Bildung은 일반적으로 성장과 도야, 혹은 교육의 개념으로 이해되고 있다. 그러나 다른 한 편 이러한 일반적 개념으로만 접근하려 할 경우에 ‘정신’ 장의 두 번째 부분인 ‘소외된 정신, Bildung’에서 헤겔이 의도했던 바의 구체적인 내용을 간과할 가능성이 높다. 이 장에서 헤겔은 근대적 정신의 소외된 상태를 Bildung으로 간주하고, 고대적 정신으로 그린 Sittlichkeit와 혁명 이후의 게르만 정신으로 간주한 Moralität와 명백히 대비시키고 있다. 어떤 이는 이 부분 역시 형성과 교육의 의미에서 일관되게 해석하고자 하는 경우가 있고, 또 어떤 이는 교양의 의미로 해석하는 경우도 있다. 전자의 경우는 앞서 지적한 것처럼 ‘소외된 정신, Bildung’이 의도한 정신의 특수한 경험을 무시하게 되고, 후자의 경우는 독일 인문학의 전통에서 이해된 교양과 헤겔이 이 장에서 말한 바의 차이를 놓칠 우려도 있다. 하지만 우리가 보기에 ‘정신’ 장의 Bildung은 일반적 의미에서 보다는 ‘근대 문화’라는 특수한 의미가 더 적절할 수도 있다는 생각이다.

Abstract

In the 『Phenomenology of Spirit』, his main works, Hegel describes the development of Sprit intending absolute knowledge through the Odysseyean experience. In this works, it is generally understood that the concept of 'Bildung' is development, cultivation and education. Although it is a very general conception of the Bildung, it may dismiss the concrete concept of it on which Hegel intended in the second Chapter of Spirit. In this chapter, Hegel consider the alienated status of the modern spirit as Bildung and contrast it cleary with the Sittlichkeit of the ancient sprit and the Moralität of the german spirit after French Revolution. Some one interpretes also this part consistently as the meaning of development and education, and others as that of cultivation. While the former interpretation, as indicated previously, dismiss the specipic experience of the Bildung, the latter fails to catch the difference between culture understood in the tradition of german Humanities and the meaning said by Hegel in this chapter. For us, it is more appropriate to use the meaning of the modern culture than to use the abstractive meaning of cultivation. In 『Differenzschrift』, Hegel characterized the modern culture as difference and duality.
