셸링의 동역학적 자연이해 -르 사주와 칸트 비판을 중심으로-

본 논문의 목적은 근대의 기계론적 자연관에 반대해 자연을 동역학적으로 파악한 셸링에서 자연철학의 방법론이 지니는 중요성에 주목하고, 그가 르 사주의 기계론적 자연학 및 칸트의 동역학론과 비판적 대결을 통해 자신의 동역학적 자연철학을 어떻게 전개하는지를 고찰하는 데 있다. 먼저 셸링은 르 사주 자연학의 사변적인 방법론을 수용하지만, 그가 기계론적 자연관을 가졌다고 비판하며 자연을 근원적 힘들의 역동적 상호관계로 파악하는 ‘동역학적 자연학’을 구상한다. 또한 셸링은 인력과 척력을 통해 물질을 설명하는 칸트의 동역학론을 수용하지만, 칸트의 물질구성이 동역학이 아닌 기계론적 지반에 아직 머물러 있을 뿐 아니라 그 구성의 통일적(선험적) 근거를 제시하지 못하고 있다고 비판한다. 따라서 셸링은 기계론적 원자론을 거부하는 점에서 칸트와 일치하지만, 르 사주의 기계적 원자론과 칸트의 동역학적 물질론을 종합하여 그와 구별되는 자신의 ‘동역학적 원자론’을 제시한다. 한편 셸링은 르 사주와 칸트 외에 플라톤 우주론의 ‘끈’ 개념과 라이프니츠 단자론의 동역학론을 수용하여 자연을 생산적 경향을 지닌 근원적인 활동성, 즉 힘들의 상호관계로 파악한다. 오늘날 자연과학(비선형 동역학)의 관점에서 셸링의 자연철학을 고찰한다면, 그에게서 뉴턴류의 기계론적 자연학을 통해 설명될 수 없는 현대의 물질(생명)의 자기조직화 이론의 선구적 형태를 발견할 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine how Schelling develops his dynamic natural philosophy through critical confrontation with Le Sage's mechanistic physics and Kant's theory of dynamics, noting the importance of the methodology of natural philosophy in Shelling, which understands nature dynamically against modern mechanistic view of nature. First, Schelling accepts the speculative methodology of Le Sage's physics, but criticizes him for having a mechanistic view of nature, and devises a 'dynamic physics' that understands nature as a dynamic interrelationship of fundamental forces. Schelling also accepts Kant's theory of dynamics, which explains matter through attraction and repulsion, but criticizes Kant's material composition for not only remaining on the mechanistic basis rather than dynamics, but also for not providing a unified(transcendetal) basis for its composition. Therefore, Schelling is consistent with Kant in rejecting mechanistic atomism, but he synthesizes Le Sage's mechanical atomism and Kant's dynamic materialism to present his 'dynamic atomism' distinct from Kant. Meanwhile, in addition to Le Sasge and Kant, Schelling accepts the concept of 'strings' in Plato's cosmology and the dynamics theory of Leibniz's Monadology, and grasps nature as a fundamental activity with productive tendencies, that is, the interrelationship of forces. If we examine Schelling's natural philosophy from the point of view of today's natural science(non-linear dynamics), we can find in him a pioneering form of the modern self-organization theory of matter(life) that cannot be explained by Newtonian mechanistic physics.
