초록

Abstract

In environmental ethics, the question of intrinsic values in nature is often critically discussed While humans are supposed to have an absolute inner dignity insofar as we are capable of free moral actions , nature in the sense of modern science is to be understood as a 'disenchanted' realm of pure factuality without values. This essay puts forward the thesis that the modern scientific worldview is based on an anti-Aristotelian revolution, according to which natural causality must be understood as a-teleological. In an interesting way, however, Hegel's natural philosophy reintroduces an objective concept of purpose into the debate about natural philosophy. It is argued that Hegel's philosophy of nature can be reconciled with the modern, scientific, anti-Aristotelian concept of nature, and that at the same time it opens up possibilities for interpreting nature that go beyond the view of nature of value-free naturalism. Hegel's conception of nature could therefore be attractive for current modern environmental ethical debate
