『천변풍경』에 나타난 주체-타자 연구

박태원 소설에서는 다양한 주체-타자의 형상화 방식이 나타난다. 본고에서는 박태원 소설에 나타나는 관계적 주체의 면모를 『천변풍경』을 중심으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 「소설가 구보씨의 일일」에서 주체가 ‘구별짓기’의 욕망을 드러내면서 타자를 관찰하는 것과는 달리 『천변풍경』에서는 동감의 주체가 관찰자의 위치를 차지한다. 이는 정보량을 조절하는 서술자의 개입을 통해 분명해진다. 『천변풍경』의 주체들은 ‘타자에 대해 무관심한 주체들’과 ‘이해 관심 없는 동감’의 주체들로 대별된다. 근대적 지식 체계는 타자에 대한 지식을 통해 타자를 지배하고자 하는 ‘동일자’의 욕망을 뒷받침한다. 이와 같은 맥락에서 타자에 대한 평가적 시선을 보이거나 자신의 욕망만을 배타적으로 추구하는 주체들은 폐쇄적인 삶의 양태를 보인다. 반면 ‘재봉이’와 ‘빨래터의 여인들’로 대변되는 주체들은 타자에 대한 동감을 기반으로 한 새로운 지식의 활용법을 보여준다. 이와 같은 동감의 감각은 ‘타자 인식’의 차원에 머무르는 것이 아니라 적극적인 실천으로 이행하며, 이를 통해 ‘타자를 환대하는 윤리적 주체’의 면모를 확인할 수 있다. 기존 논의에서 『천변풍경』이 ‘사상의 부재’라는 부정적인 평가를 받아왔다. 본고에서는 ‘주체-타자’의 관계 자체를 분석 대상으로 삼고, 이를 통해 이 텍스트가 담보하고 있는 윤리적 지향성을 적극적으로 부각하고자 하였다.
Abstract
Various ways of embodiment of subject-other appear in Park Tae-won's Novel. This study tried to investigate the aspect of relational subject in Park Tae-won's Novel centering around 『Cheonbyunpoonggyong』. In "A day of novelist Mr. Bo Gu", the subject watches the other revealing the desire of 'distinction', while in 『Cheonbyunpoonggyong』, the sympathizing subject takes the position of watcher. This is being cleared through the intervention by a describer who controls the quantity of informaton. The subjects in 『Cheonbyunpoonggyong』 are divided roughly into 'subjects who are indifferent to the other' and 'sympathizing subjects with no interest'. Modern system of knowledge backs up the desire of the 'identical' who tries to rule the others through the knowledge on them. In this context, those subjects who show an evaluative sight on the others or seek their own desire exclusively reveal the aspect of closed life. On the other hand, those subjects who are represented by 'Jaebongi' and 'women at a wash place' show the usage of new knowledge based on the sympathy for the other. This sense of sympathy does not stay on the level of 'recognition of others', but transients to an active practice, and through that transition, the aspect of an 'ethical subject that entertains the other' can be identified. In the existing discussion, 『Cheonbyunpoonggyong』 has received a negative evaluation as 'absence of thought'. This study took the relation of 'subject-other' itself as the object of analysis and through that, tried to bring the ethical directivity, which this text assures, into relief actively.
