Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze appropriateness of the standard curriculum for the music majors for college degree programs. For this purpose, the researcher overviewed the meaning of standard curriculum in academic credit bank system and reviewed the preceding studies about the needs of students and the educational institutes which participated in the academic credit bank system, and thereby, identified the criteria to evaluate the inter-curriculum connection and professionalism of major. The results of the analysis of standard curricula appropriateness for instrumental music, applied music and musical majors in college degree can be summarized as follows; First, it was found that the standard curriculum for instrumental music college degree program was relatively well organized in view of inter-curriculum connection. Second, it was conceived, however, that the subjects of instrumental music college degree program were less effective in view of the vocational professionalism, because its 39 subjects(80%) out of 49 ones were not vocation-related but basic. Third, it was found that the standard curriculum for applied music college degree program was less sufficient in terms of inter-curriculum connection. Fourth, as the subjects of applied music college degree program were found much overlapped, it was conceived that the curriculum was less professional. So, it was deemed necessary to supplement it with some practical subjects. Fifth, it was conceived that the standard curriculum for musical college degree program was less connected with the curriculum of the related majors. Sixth, it was deemed necessary to add some basic theoretical and practical subjects to the standard curriculum for musical college degree program, so that student could learn about it in a more systematic way.
