중증장애 자녀 자립 과정에서 경험하는 부모의 신념과 역할에 관한 연구 -근거이론 중심으로-
A Study on the Beliefs and Roles of Parents Experienced in the Process of Independence for Children with Severe Disabilities: Based on Grounded Theory

본 연구는 중증장애 자녀의 자립 과정에서 그 부모들이 어떠한 신념을 가지고 어떠한 역할을 하였는지를 알아보고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 자립한 성인 중증장애인의 부모 15인을 심층 면담 하였고 분석은 Strauss와 Corbin이 제시한 근거이론 연구의 절차와 방법을 따랐다. 그 결과, 총 146개의 개념과 37개의 하위범주 및 16개의 범주가 도출되었다. 중증장애 자녀 자립 과정에서 겪는 부모 경험의 중심현상은 ‘습관화된 부모 역할과 혼재된 정 서’로 나타났으며 핵심 범주는 ‘각자도생의 신념으로 자녀의 자기결정을 지지함으로써 부모의 성 장과 가족의 화합 및 자녀의 행복을 찾아가는 여정’으로 도출되었다. 과정 분석에서는 물리적 자 립 지원 단계, 자립 적응 관여 단계, 부모 역할 축소 단계, 자립 신념 보강 단계, 정서적 자립 지지 단계의 5단계를 거치는 것으로 나타났다. 유형 분석에서는 주도적 추진형, 합의적 진행형, 존중적 보조형의 세 가지 부모 유형으로 구분하였다. 상황 모형에서는 핵심 범주를 중심으로 개 인 수준, 가족 수준, 사회 수준, 국가 수준으로 나누어 각 상황 간의 상호작용을 살펴보았다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 자녀 자립의 의미와 본질, 부모 자녀 간의 자립 합의, 장애 정도와 유형에 따른 적용 가능성에 대한 논의를 거쳐 정책적 및 실천적 제언을 하였다.
Abstract
This study was conducted to find out what beliefs and disability awareness parents of children with severe disabilities have and what roles they played in the process of their children’s independence. Participants in this study were 15 parents who have children with severe disabilities and living independently over the age of 20 across the country. Data were collected in-depth interviews from August 2023 to February 2024. The analysis was based on the procedures and methods of grounded theory presented by Strauss and Corbin(1998), and as a result of the analysis, a total of 146 concepts, 37 subcategories, and 16 categories were derived in open coding. The central phenomenon appeared to be habitualized parental roles and mixed emotions. The core category was found to be ‘a journey to find parental growth, family harmony, and children’s happiness by supporting their children’s self-deter- mination with the beliefs of each-of-us-lives.’ The participant experience process was composed of five stages. The type analysis were found to be three types. In the situation model, family level, social level, and national level. Based on the results of this study, policy and practical suggestions were made through discussions on the meaning and nature of child independence, consensus on independence between parents and children, and applicability according to the degree and type of disability.
