Abstract
The purpose of this study is to forecast 2012 Korean presidential election using Delphi expert surveys. The studies on Korean elections have been done multi-dimensionally since the democratization in 1987, however, forecasting Korean elections has not been tried. It has been caused by the small N problem for Korean elections as well as limitations of using data for analyses. In addition, unstable and dynamic party politics in Korea have made forecasting elections very difficult. Even though it is not easy to forecast elections in Korea, it has significance to make voters understand the electoral situations as well as to make parties or candidates do their best for leading more strong political support. In this vein, this study tries to forecast 2012 Korean presidential election using Delphi surveys for 30 experts in the field of Korean elections. The results of the surveys generally reveal that it will be difficult for the ruling party, Saenuri Party (former Grand National Party), to win in 2012 presidential election. It means that dissatisfaction with the president and the ruling party of the voters will be an important factor in 2012 presidential election to decide its outcome.
