본 연구는 21세기 최첨단 정보통신 기술의 성과물들과 디지털 미디어가 조합되어 도래된 혁명적 지식·정보 전달 시스템 및 학습 환경 등의 변화가 인간의 의사소통 양식에 미치고 있는 변화를 비판적으로 진단하고, 뉴미디어 시대 올바른 교육의 역할을 논의하고자 진행되었다. 디지털 미디어 시대 ‘미디어 리터러시’를 기반으로 한 지식 정보의 획득과 이에 수반하는 다양한 의사소통 상황에서 특정 사회적, 정치적, 이념적 패러다임이 개입되어 수많은 후속 정보를 생산하고 있다. 이 정보들은 AI와 알고리즘이 주도하는 매체의 환경에 인간을 반복적으로 노출 시키고 그 결과 한 개인의 인식을 특정한 패러다임에 편중된 ‘확증 편향’으로 이끌고 있다. 허위의 신념을 기반으로 한 확증 편향은 단순한 개인의 신념 형성 차원에 한정되지 않고 기본적 사회질서에 심각한 혼란을 초래하고 있다. 교육이 정치적 중립을 지켜야 한다는 말은 상식에 속한다. 그러나 그 상식은 다양한 정치적·사회적 환경에 대한 사회 구성원들의 균형된 시각을 전제로 성립될 수 있다. 또한 사회구성원들이 사회공공의 이익에 부합하는 행동과 판단이 무엇인지를 합리적으로 판단할 수 있어야 한다. 이러한 시대적 상황에서 교육은 개별학습자가 삶의 상황에서 미디어 리터러시를 해석함에 있어 민주적이고 합리적인 가치 판단의 기준을 찾을 수 있도록 조력해야 한다. 무엇보다 학습자들에게 자신들이 소속된 사회의 보편적 가치와 기본적 규칙을 준수하는 범주에서 자신의 사고와 행동을 자유롭게 펼칠 수 있다는 민주주의 사회의 기본적 원리를 각인시켜야 한다. 즉 교육의 근원적인 목표에 대한 명확한 규정 하에서 학습자들에게 미디어 리터러시에 대한 도덕적, 사회적, 교육적 수용·활용·표현 등의 방법론을 대해 인식 시켜야 할 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential for biased human perception in the process of acquiring information via digital media. Furthermore, it seeks to propose effective strategies for media literacy education to address the challenges arising in this context. The study proceeds as follows. First, it discusses the definitions of digital literacy and media literacy to better understand the digital media environment. Second, it examines the issues in the process of knowledge acquisition through digital media based on media literacy. Third, it emphasizes the need for new approaches to media literacy education. As a result, it becomes evident that the use of digital media in education is inevitable. Media can enhance human efficiency and improve communication. However, the creation of knowledge through media is not value-neutral. Media content is produced based on specific values and purposes, often distorting the truth and leading individuals to become passive and dependent. In this context, we must recognize that media acts as a kind of ‘filter’ for human perception. Through media literacy education, learners should be able to understand the function and purpose of these filters from an educational perspective. The necessity of general media literacy education is clear. Learners are in the process of developing ways to correctly absorb knowledge and information about the world. Media literacy education should provide a clear understanding of the proper functions of media literacy.
