본 연구는 2022 개정 교육과정이 강조하는 깊이 있는 학습을 초등 영어 교과에 구현하기 위하여 영어과 개념기반 탐구단원 설계 방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 관련 문헌 분석을 기반으로 영어과 개념기반 탐구단원 설계 절차와 탐구 모형을 구안하고 현장에서 적용 가능한 단원 설계 템플릿과 예시안을 개발하였다. 본 연구의 핵심 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 5단계 단원 설계 절차(교육과정 분석 및 핵심 아이디어 설정하기 → 단원 재구성하기 → 단원 평가 계획 수립하기 → 학습 경험 계획하기 → 단원 개요 작성하기)를 정립하였다. 둘째, 영어과에 적합한 4단계 탐구 모형(Engage → Focus & Find Out → Practice & Perform → Reflect & Transfer)을 구안하였다. 셋째, 수행평가 과제와 분석적 루브릭을 포함한 평가 체계를 구축함으로써 학습자의 개념적 이해를 기반으로 영어의사소통역량을 질적으로 평가하는 방안을 마련하였다. 본 연구는 교사의 교육과정 재구성 역량을 지원하고, 영어과에서 학습자 중심의 깊이 있는 학습을 지원하기 위한 구체적인 개념기반 탐구단원 설계 가이드라인을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
Abstract
This study aimed to propose a concept-based inquiry unit design framework for primary English education to promote deeper learning, a key emphasis of the 2022 revised Korean national curriculum. Based on a review of relevant literature, this study developed a unit design procedure, an inquiry model, a practical template, and a sample unit. The results of the study are as follows. First, a five-stage unit design procedure was established: (1) analyzing the curriculum and setting core ideas, (2) restructuring the unit, (3) planning assessment, (4) designing learning experiences, and (5) developing the unit overview. Second, a four-phase inquiry model was proposed―Engage, Focus & Find Out, Practice & Perform, and Reflect & Transfer―specifically tailored to the English subject. Third, a comprehensive assessment system was developed, incorporating a performance-based task and an analytic rubric to assess students’ English communicative competence based on their conceptual understanding. This study offers a practical framework for teachers to enhance their curriculum design capability and supports the implementation of learner-centered, deeper learning in primary English classrooms.
