본 연구는 고등학교 학생, 교사, 대학 교수의 인식을 통해 대학입학 전형요소로서의 논술고사가 실제로 무엇을 측정하는가를 논의한다. 각 집단의 인식조사를 위해 혼합 연구방법을 적용하여 양적 자료인 설문지 자료와 질적 자료인 면접 자료를 활용하였다. 분석 결과 논술고사가 의도한 바와 같이 학생들의 종합적 사고 능력을 측정하는가에 대해 고등학교 학생들과 교사들은 부정적인 데 반해 대학 교수들은 보다 긍정적 견해를 보였다. 특히, 이러한 인식의 차이는 논술고사의 개념 자체보다는 논술고사의 측정도구로서의 문제점, 예를 들어, 지나치게 높은 난이도, 채점상의 어려움, 논술고사의 출제, 채점에 대한 대학의 배타적 관리 등에 기인하였다.
Abstract
This article illuminates what the essay test as a college admissions screening factor actually assesses according to the perceptions of high school students, teachers, and faculty members. In order to investigate the perceptions of the groups the mixed methods approach was applied. That is, surveys as quantitative data and interviews as qualitative data were used in this study. According to the results of the data analysis high school students and teachers had relatively negative positions, but faculty members had positive positions on whether the essay test assesses students' comprehensive thinking. Especially, the gap of the perceptions was due to the limitations of the essay test as an assessment tool. Also, the results of this study shows that the most important thing is to reflect the high school curriculum when making up the essay test in order to assess students' comprehensive thinking.
