초ㆍ중ㆍ고 교과서의 고령화 사회 관련 내용 분석 -사회, 도덕, 실과(기술ㆍ가정) 교과서를 중심으로-

이 연구에서는 초ㆍ중ㆍ고 교과서에서 고령화 사회 관련 내용을 다루는 방식을 확인하기 위해 고령화에 대한 관점, 고령화 사회 대비 주체, 고령화 사회 대비 내용을 중심으로 사회, 도덕, 실과(기술ㆍ가정) 교과서 57권에 대한 내용 분석을 수행하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 첫째, 고령화에 대한 관점의 측면에서는 고령화를 중립적인 사회 현상으로 보거나 긍정적으로 평가하기보다는 부정적인 프레임 속에서 다루는 경향이 강한 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 고령화 사회 대비 주체의 측면에서는 국가 및 사회 책임과 같이 공적 차원의 대비를 강조하는 내용이 대다수를 차지하는 반면, 개인 및 가족 책임과 같이 사적 차원의 대비를 다룬 내용은 적은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 고령화 사회 대비 내용과 관련하여, 먼저 사적 영역에서의 대비 내용인 생애 설계 및 노후 준비의 측면에서는 재무 중심의 대비를 강조하는 데 비해, 여가 및 자기계발, 인간관계에 대한 언급은 상대적으로 적고, 건강 및 보건에 대한 언급은 매우 부족하였다. 한편, 공적 영역에서의 대비 내용인 노인 복지의 측면에서는 금전, 직업 및 진로, 건강 및 보건, 환경 및 시설 관련 내용이 비교적 고루 다뤄지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 전반적으로 초ㆍ중ㆍ고 교과서에서 고령화 사회는 국가 및 사회적 차원의 대비를 요구하는 위기 현상으로 포착되고 있었다. 이는 고령화라는 거스를 수 없는 사회 변동 양상에 내포된 개인적, 사회적 의미를 균형 있게 인식하고 다차원적인 대응 전략을 모색하는 데 효과적이지 않다는 점에서 개선이 필요하다. 이와 관련하여, 향후 교과서에서 고령화 사회에 대한 ‘위기 관리’ 또는 ‘위험 관리’ 프레임을 넘어 ‘기회 관리’ 또는 ‘생애 관리’ 프레임이라는 대안적 관점과 함께 다양한 대응 전략을 균형 있게 다루어야 함을 강조하였다.
Abstract
This study aims to analyze how content on aging society is dealt with in social studies, ethics, and practical arts (technology and home economics) textbooks of elementary, middle and high schools. For this purpose, a total of 57 textbooks were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Three analysis perspectives were employed for this study: 1) the perspective on aging, 2) the agent of preparation for aging society, and 3) the content of preparation for aging society. The main findings are as follows: Firstly, in terms of the perspective on aging, aging has been dealt with in a remarkably negative framework rather than in the framework of a neutral phenomenon or positive evaluation. Secondly, in terms of the agent of preparation for aging society, public responsibility taken by the government and society has been more emphasized than private responsibility taken by individual citizens and their families. Thirdly, in terms of the content of preparation for aging society, financial preparation for aging has been stressed while the aspects of leisure and self-improvement, human relation and health has been relatively occasionally discussed, and medical and health issues have been rarely mentioned. By and large the concept of aging society in elementary, middle and high school textbooks has been addressed as a phenomenon of crisis for which responsive actions should be taken on a national and social level. Based on these findings, in addition to the perspective of “crisis or risk management,” that of “opportunity or life cycle management” has been suggested as an alternative perspective to aging society, and it has been pointed out that diverse responsive strategies should be discussed in a balanced manner in social studies, ethics, and practical arts textbooks.
