본 연구는 은퇴가 주관적 건강상태에 미치는 효과를 추정하기 위하여 「국민노후보장패널」 1~3차년도 자료를 이용하여 로짓 분석과 성향점수 매칭법을 적용하였다. 분석 결과에 의하면, 우리나라에서 은퇴라는 사건은 주관적 건강상태를 악화시키는 방향으로 작용하고 있다. 특히, 건강상의 이유로 은퇴한 경우나 비자발적으로 은퇴한 경우, 그리고 조기은퇴를 경험하는 경우에 있어 은퇴라는 사건은 주관적 건강상태에 부정적인 효과를 강하게 보이는 것을 확인하였다. 이와 같이 은퇴가 건강에 부정적인 영향을 미친다면, 예를 들어 비자발적인 조기퇴직 등으로 인해 생애근로를 마감하는 경우에는 조기은퇴가 의료비용과 건강 투자비용을 높일 수 있다는 점에서 개인뿐만 아니라 사회 전체에 바람직하지 않은 결과를 초래할 수 있으며, 이 문제는 인구고령화가 진행될수록 더욱 심각해질 것이다. 이상의 결과는 앞으로 고령사회를 대비한 정책을 수립함에 있어 은퇴의 건강효과도 반드시 고려될 필요가 있음을 시사한다.
Abstract
To estimate the effect of retirement on self rated health status, binary logit analysis and propensity score matching was used on 1st through 3rd wave panel data from 『Korean Retirement and Income Study』. Analysis showed that retirement works to deteriorate subjective health status in Korea. Especially, in the cases of involuntary retirement, retirement due to health reasons, and early retirement, retirement has a strong negative effect on self rated health status. If retirement has such negative influence on health, retirement can cause undesirable results not only for the affected individuals but also for the society in general; for example, premature involuntary retirement may result in higher cost of medical care and health investment. This problem will become more severe as population aging progresses. Results herein shows that effect of retirement on health must be considered when forming policies to prepare for aging society.
