이 연구는 이광수의 무정을 통해 식민지 근대 주체의 내면이 생산되는 과정을 살폈다. 무정에서 특징적인 것은 ‘나=자기’와 민족의 상상적 구성이 자율적인 내면의 영역과 그것의 가치를 발견하는 과정에 의해 매개되고 있다는 점이다. 무정이 갖는 가치는 그런 내면의 자기구성의 드라마를 긴박하고도 투명하게 연출하고 있다는 데 있다. 무정에서 내면의 발견은 곧 문학(예술)의 발견이다. 그리고 그 내면의 발견은 텍스트 실천 속에서 연출하는 수행적인(performative) 것이다. 이 수행성의 이면에 개재되어 작용하고 있는 것은 바로 문학(예술)이라는 제도이며, 이광수는 무정에서 그 문학(예술)의 발견을 문학이라는 제도적 장치 속에서 연출하고 있었다. 특히 무정에서 두드러지는바 문학예술이 발휘하는 정서적발견적교육적 기능을 하위이야기(hypodiegetic) 층위에서 은유적으로 연출하는 텍스트 실천방식이 갖는 의미는 특별히 강조할 만하다. 그것은 흔히 무정의 글쓰기를 ‘계몽(주의)적 글쓰기’로 요약해 이해하는 상식과 자명성에 의해 은폐되고 간과되어온 측면이다. 특히 무정에서 그런 형태로 문학적 언표가 그 언표작용 자체의 의미와 가치를 연출하는 수행적 표현이 되고 있다는 사실은 무정의 근대성을 측량하는 중요한 지표가 될 수 있다. 즉 무정이 보여주는 미학적 근대성의 중요한 국면 중 하나는, 그런 텍스트 실천을 통해 문학이라는 제도적 장치의 장(場) 안에서 그 장치의 효과로써 다시 문학을 (재)발견하는 이 수행적 자기반영에서 찾을 수 있는 것이다. SUMMARY
Abstract
I aimed at examine the process of production of interiority of colonial modern subject focusing on Yi Kwangsu’s Heartlessness. The characteristic in Heartlessness is that the imaginary construction of “I=self” and nation is carried by process of discovery of the autonomous Interiority and its value. Yi Kwangsu’s Heartlessness stages drama of that self- construction of interiority transparently, and importance of Heartlessness is precisely in it. In Heartlessness, the discovery of interiority is discovery of literature(and art), and that is the performative one staged in textual practice. Lee Kwangsoo was staging that discovery of literature(and art) in institutional apparatus of literature. Especially, the significance of the way of textual practice in which emotional, heuristic, educational functions of literature(and art) were staged metaphorically, is worth emphasizing. That is suppressed aspect by doxa and self-evidence in relation to the writing of Heartlessness, in which one understand that writing as “writing of enlightenment”. As a result, The fact that literal enounce was becoming the performative articulation in which staging the meaning and value of just that enunciation, is important index of literal modernity of Heartlessness. That is to say, one of the important aspect of aesthetic modernity of Heartlessness can be found in this performative self-reflection, in which it (re)discover the Literature in the effect of institutional apparatus.
