오늘날 한국문학장의 연구 동향은 1990년대의 지적 풍경을 지배했던 포스트 담론에 대한 비판과 반성, 즉 ‘포스트의 포스트’에 대한 질문과 실천이라 할 수 있다. 포스트 담론의 영향으로 형성된 탈—텍스트주의, 역사주의, 풍속사 등의 문학 연구 경향은 문학이 초역사적이고 영속적인 실재가 아닌, 역사적 구성물임을 밝혀낸다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다. 그러나 이러한 연구들에서 연구자 주체의 정치적·도덕적 입장이 충분히 반성되지 않음으로써 텍스트를 둘러싼 논의는 개인의 관점에서 해석된 역사를 유일한 것으로 만드는 해석적 권력 투쟁의 장이 되고 있다. 이에 주체 중심주의를 반성하기 위한 방법론으로서, 주체에게 주어진 필연적 한계에 대한 수용을 그 본질로 하는 ‘비극’이 중요한 개념으로 등장한다. 이러한 맥락을 바탕으로 본고는 아이러니와의 비교를 통해 비극 개념의 핵심을 정리하고, 그것이 문학의 자율성에 대한 증명으로 이어지는 것을 분석함으로써 ‘포스트의 포스트’로서의 비극의 의의를 이해해 본다. 나아가 담론 중심 연구와 문학 중심 연구의 비생산적 이분법에 대한 해체를 목적으로, 이태준의 텍스트에 비극적으로 접근하는 연구들을 검토해 본다. 그 결론으로써 그의 문장론은 텍스트의 논리에서 진리가 생성되는 과정에 주목한 읽기를 통해 현실과 한 몸을 이루며 현실을 구성하는 것으로 드러나는바, 텍스트의 자율성이 역사성을 복원한다는 것을 보여준다. 이처럼 비극을 통해 문학의 자율성에 도달하는 것은, 그것이 주체가 포기된 자리에 다시 주체가 기입되는 것을 막는 방편이 된다는 점에서 중대한 의미를 지닌다.
Abstract
Today, the study of Korean literature centers around criticism and reflection on the “post-” discourse that dominated the 1990s—, that is, questioning and practicing the ‘post of post’. The trend of literary studies such as post-textualism, historicism, and history of custom formed by the influence of “post-” discourse is significant in that it treats literature as a historical construct. However, in these studies, the discussion about the text is becoming a venue for the struggle over interpretation. The reason for this error is the researcher’s failure to sufficiently reflect on his or her political and moral subjectivity. This paper points to ‘tragedy’ as an important concept to reflect on subject-centeredness. Based on this context, this paper reviews the core of the concept of tragedy and understands the significance of tragedy as a ‘post of post’ by connecting it with the autonomy of literature. Furthermore, for the purpose of dismantling the unproductive dichotomy between discourse-centered studies and literature-centered studies, it reviews studies that approach Yi Taejun’s text through the concept of tragedy. His theory of the writing turns out to embody in itself reality and constitute reality, showing that the autonomy of text restores its historicity. Rethinking the autonomy of literature through tragedy is significant because it becomes a way to prevent the subject from being placed again where the subject is abandoned.
