Abstract
Sharing services are changing the paradigm of consumption. This study demonstrated effects of consumers’ various perceptions of utility on intention to use luxury fashion sharing service. In particular, this study focused on the effects of selective consumption moderation (small luxury), which is also a recent consumption trend. The purpose of this study was to demonstrate that the relationship between selective anti-consumption and the intention to use fashion sharing service is mediated by the economic, social, pleasure, and moral utility of sharing service, and examined whether the level of luxury brand has a moderating effect in these relationships. To this end, 315 respondents participated in the online survey, and their age and income were distributed as evenly as possible. As a result of the study, the trend of 'small luxury' has a significant effect on the intention to use fashion sharing services. Among utility for fashion sharing service, social utility and moral utility were found to have a mediating effect in the relationship between small luxury and intention to use fashion sharing service. In addition, in the effect of the utility of fashion sharing service on the intention to use, the moderating effect of luxury brand level appeared partially. It was found that the higher the luxury brand, the lower the effect of pleasure utility, and the lower the luxury brand level, the higher the pleasure effect. Taking a step further from the previous study that examined the effect of ‘small luxury’ on consumption (ownership) of expensive products, this study is meaningful in that it highlights the effect on ‘sharing’, another method of consumption. In addition, exploring the utility of the consumer's perceived sharing service and examining the relationship between each variable differs depending on the level of luxury, it would have a great implication for the expansion of the luxury fashion sharing service in the early stage of the market. This study is expected to provide some strategic insights to practitioners, considering the rising trend of luxury consumption, especially among young people.
