제국과 식민지, 그 사이의 ‘소년’ - 잡지 <소년>을 중심으로 -

Abstract

『Sonyeon(Boys)』 is a magazine that was founded in April 1937 first and discontinued in December 1940. Around publication of 『Sonyeon(Boys)』, attempts to bring out the importance of children by calling them ‘the second generation nation’ or ‘small nation’, or emphasize their roles as part of ‘nation’ increased rapidly in Korea. A tense situation including the Chinese-Japanese War and the Pacific War formed the foundation of this trend, and『Sonyeon(Boys)』was located in an extension of the trend. The editorial policy of 『Sonyeon(Boys)』 that not only continuously formed images of ideal boys as ‘subjects of the empire’ through various genres like dissertations, children's stories, boys' stories, etc., but also strongly spread the image of victory suggests what this trend aimed at. However, it seems difficult to define the true meaning of 『Sonyeon(Boys)』 as simple as above because antinomy that sticked to use Korean until it was discontinued while advocating the bringing up of subjects of the empire is found from its editing procedure.
