『소년클럽』의 ‘전쟁’을 중심으로 한 대중 독자 형성과 독자의 참여

Shonenkurabu (Boys' Club) had been published from 1914 in the Taisho Period to 1962 after Japan’s defeat in war. Even after the cessation of publication, its contents had been published by subject in book form from time to time, which indicates its great influence. Those who enjoyed Shonenkurabu still had paid attention to ‘adventures’ and ‘fun elements’ that were outwardly expressed in the magazine, pushing aside the fundamental problems of Japan related to war even after its defeat in war. This trend has been reproduced in contents and products for children (novels, comics, animations, movies, toys, etc.) until now. Meanwhile, some view critically the images of imperialism that has been depicted in modern Japan, but they still show limitations such as regarding war and responsibility as a problem of the ‘state’ and not considering the recognition and roles of the general public. Against this backdrop, this study examined what role the magazine played in supporting Japan’s war and how readers supported this trend, focusing on the contents published since the mid-1930s when Shonenkurabu enjoyed its best time and Japan was in the midst of war.
