이 연구는 생성형 AI 시대의 대학 글쓰기 방향을 탐색하는 작업이다. 특히 논증적 글쓰기에서의 생성형 AI 사용 가능성을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 먼저 글쓰기 교육에서 활발히 논의되고 있는 생성형 AI의 활용논쟁에 대해 정리하였다. 그 결과 ‘새로운 기술의 적극적 활용’과 ‘글쓰기의 교육적 가치 재인식’ 입장으로 대별되었다. 그런 다음 논증적 글쓰기의본질과 생성형 AI의 위상을 정립하였다. 논증적 글쓰기가 특히 사고의 표현이자 학문 공동체의 입문이며 인지적 과정을 중시한다는 점을 확인하였다. 이에 생성형 AI는 논증적 글쓰기에서 ‘활용’이 아닌 ‘사용’의 위상을 지닌다는 것을 파악하였다. 이를 바탕으로 논증적 글쓰기에서 생성형 AI의 사용 방안을 가늠하였다. Kellogg(1999)의 인지적 글쓰기 모형에서 생성형 AI가 필자의 사고와 표현 과정에 조력할 수 있는 지점과 세부 활동을 제시하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the direction of university writing in the era of generative AI, particularly focusing on the potential use of generative AI in argumentative writing. To accomplish this aim, this study first summarized the debate surrounding the active utilization of generative AI in writing education, which is currently under vigorous discussion. The results revealed two contrasting perspectives: “embracing the proactive utilization of new technology” versus “reconsidering the educational value of writing.” And then, this study established the essence of argumentative writing and the role of generative AI within it. It was confirmed that argumentative writing serves as both an expression of thought and an entry point into academic communities, emphasizing cognitive processes. In light of this, this study was recognized that generative AI holds a position of “use” rather than “utilization” in argumentative writing. Building upon this understanding, potential ways of incorporating generative AI into argumentative writing were explored. Drawing from Kellogg(1999)’s cognitive writing model, specific points and activities where generative AI could assist in the author's thought and expression processes were outlined.
