국어 명사화된 절과 관련된 단위에 대한 연구 -언어 유형론적 연구에 대한 분석을 중심으로-

초록

본 연구의 목적은 명사화된 절(nominalized clause)의 대표적인 유형인 ‘것’ 구문에 대해 범언어적인 관점의 문법 단위들인 내핵 관계절, 핵없는 관계절 등 관계절 부류와의 연관성과 변별성을 고찰하고 한국어 명사화된 절을 명사구로 보아야 하는지 아니면 보절로 보아야 하는지도 논의하여 궁극적으로 국어 명사화된 절의 범언어적인 정체성을 제시하는 것이다. 첫째 본 논의에서는 관형사절과 명사절이 명사화된 절(nominalized clause)이라는 포괄적인 단위로 언어보편적인 관점에서 논의되고 있음을 보였고 국어에서도 다양한 내부 구조를 가진 절들을 명사화된 절로 포괄할 수 있음을 제시하였다. 특히 핵없는 관계절 및 내핵 관계절의 경우, 일반 ‘관형사절+것’ 구성 관점에서 분석하기보다는 ‘명사화된 절’ 관점에서 분석하는 것이 더 설명적이라는 점도 주장하였다. 둘째 주지하다시피 다양한 절들은 ‘사건(event)’, ‘개체(entity)’를 나타내는 중의성을 보인다. 그러나 ‘개체’를 나타내는 경우도 결국 사건과 관련한 ‘개체’를 나타낸다는 것을 고찰하였고 따라서 관형사절로서 피수식어를 제한한다는 관점보다는 ‘명사화’ 관점에서 ‘명사화된 절’로 보아야 그 중의성을 적절하게 설명할 수 있다고 주장하였다. 또한 중의성에 대해 살펴보면서 국어 명사화된 절의 부류에서는 ‘-음, -기’ 명사절이 아니라 ‘것’ 구문이 대표형이라는 점도 재확인하였다. 셋째, Dryer(1985/2007), Dixon(2006), Noonan(1985/2007) 등을 토대로 이질적인 내부 구조를 가진 국어 명사화된 절의 경우 보절보다는 명사구로 포괄될 수 있음을 제시하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the representative type of nominalized clause, ‘ges’ construction and the related language-typological category, ‘internally headed relative clause, headless relative clause’ and also establish the language-universal status of the Korean nominalized clause by studying whether the Korean nominalized clause is complement clause or noun phrase. There is exhibited that the nominalized clause embrace the various relative clauses and noun clause in the basis of language typology, in particular, even internally headed relative clause, headless relative clause must be considered as nominalized clause, not ‘relative clause+ges’ The clauses show ambiguity, ‘event’ or ‘entity’ but even if a clause exhibits the entity, the entity is related with event, so the ambiguity is suitably explained in the viewpoint of nominalized clause, not relative clause which restrict an inferred head. Additionally in studying these ambiguities, there is confirmed that the ‘ges’ construction is the representative type of nominalized clause, not ‘-eum’, ‘-ki’ noun clause. The Korean nominalized clause which has different inner construction can be subsumed under the noun phrase, not complement clause in the basis of Dryer(1985/2007), Dixon(2006), Noonan(1985/2007).
