공감의 도덕발달심리학적 해석과 도덕교육적 함의

본 연구는 도덕발달심리학의 연구동향에 따라 ‘공감(empathy)’의 기제를 밝히고 이 기제가 지니는 도덕교육적 함의를 논의하고자 한다. 이를 위해서 공감할 수 있는 능력이 자아를 도덕적 자아로 거듭나게 한다는 도덕심리학적 연구에 주목하고자 한다. 자아의 발달이 타인과의 반복되는 공감의 과정을 겪으면서 자율성과 상호성이 그 강도를 함께 높여간다는 연구결과들이 등장하고 있기 때문이다. 이러한 논의를 통해서 공감의 도덕철학적 접근이 가지는 한계를 넘어서기 위해서는 도덕발달심리학적 접근이 필요하다는 점을 알리고자 한다. 아울러, 도덕심리학적 해석에 기초해서 공감 능력을 함양하기 위한 도덕과 교육의 구체적인 적용의 방향을 모색하고자 한다.
Abstract
This study tries to discuss the importance of empathy and its mechanism based on the current moral psychological theories. For this purpose, we consider the result of psychological theories that a person becomes a moral self when he has an ability to empathize with others. That's because the development of sense of self is enhanced by the progress of reiterated empathy in the interaction with others. We should examine the necessity of the moral psychological approach as well as the moral philosophical one. At the end of this study, we try to come up with several ideas to improve empathy ability in moral education.
