본 논문은 내러티브의 관점에서 현행 학교 교육의 문제점을 진단하고 그 해결방향을 도덕교육에서 찾아보고자 한다. 내러티브 관점에서 학교 교육의 위기는 첫째, 사회적 성공의 내러티브를 학교가 그대로 받아들이고 있다는 것이다. 무한경쟁과 생존의 사회적 서사는 학교에서 교육경쟁을 통한 성공의 서사로 재현되었고, 이는 교육의 본질적 가치에서 멀어지게 하였다. 둘째, 학교의 교육과정이 근대의 객관적 지식과 정보의 습득에 치중하면서 자신과 사회의 삶을 성찰하지 못하는 소외현상을 가져왔다. 셋째, 학생들이 자신의 정체성을 다양한 방면에서 시도하고 실현하지 못하며, 이성적 합리성에 의해 자신을 규정함으로 정체성 형성의 실패를 낳고 있다. 도덕교육의 입장에서 이에 대한 해결 방향은 첫째, 성공주의 내러티브와 다른 대안적 도덕 언어와 담론을 회복․발견하는 것이며, 둘째, 도덕과 교육과정을 재구조화하여 학생들의 다양한 삶의 영역을 포괄하는 것이며, 셋째, 학생들이 자신의 삶을 한 편의 이야기로 생각하는 도덕적 정체성 형성을 도와주는 일이다. 이는 결국 타자에 대한 상상과 공감의 교육으로 나아가는 일이 되어야 할 것이다.
Abstract
The aim of this paper is diagnosing the problems of Korean education and suggesting a solution of those on the basis of narrative moral education. The problems are as follows. First, the narrative of Korean modern society is transmitted to school system. That is, endless competition and survival games in society are represented at school. This phenomena distort educational values and school activities. Second, the curriculum of modern school emphasizes object knowledge and information that cannot give opportunities to consider real life problems of students. Various aspects of students' experiences and their desire do not come into school curriculum, so the gap between society and school is widened that makes school life bored and meaningless. Third, students are not interested in making their identity. Self as a rational being is over-emphasized, so multiple aspects of identities are neglected. Students do not try their own identity-building. Narrative approach to moral development and moral education will be a possible solution to these problems. Rediscovering and inventing the moral language that is opposite to main stream moral discourse(empathizing the competition and individual success), restructuring the curriculum of moral education at school, and helping students to build multiple moral identity will be possible solutions.
