몸에 대한 자전적 탐구의 윤리적 의미

Abstract

Human beings are given life only in and through their own body. Body is the locus where people are able to live their lives with their own signatures in them. Despite that, people continue not only to have searched for ethics from culture, society, history, or religion which are all external realities but also to have maintained the misconception that ethics is to subjugate our body based on the external meanings, values, and purposes imposed from the outside. This paper is an autobiographical inquiry into my life journey in which the body-I who I have lived with as the life-long partner. More specifically, I continued to have searched for the truthful identity of myself not only by understanding but also by communicating the realities of the tension, uncertainty, and incompleteness between the body-I and the consciousness-I. This inquiry uncovered that ethics should come from the inside of our body not from the outside of it, and it further suggests that ethics education should play the role of helping our children to understand and shape their own morality by listening to the inner voices coming from their unique body, Conclusively, this paper suggests that ethics education should work not as an external force which prescribes what our children should do but as a guide who helps them to learn by understanding the voices of who they are as body-I.
