이 연구는 오키나와 지역사 교과서에 나타난 동아시아의 표상방식을 검토하였다. 오키나와 지역 주민들은 자신들의 정체성을 동아시아 구도에서 찾고 있다. 오키나와 정체성 교육은 동아시아의 심상지리를 학습자에게 각인시키고 있다. 동아시아의 표상방식은 선사시대와 류큐왕국 시대에서 그 전형성이 나타나고 있다. 첫째, 선사 해양문화의 요충지로서 오키나와 지역을 표상하고 있다. 선사시대 오키나와는 바닷길을 통해 사람의 이주와 문화의 교류가 활발한 열린 공간이었다. 둘째, 류큐왕국은 중국, 조선 그리고 일본과의 교류 네트워크 속에서 결절 지역으로서 의의가 있었다. 또한 류큐는 동북아시아와 동남아시아 지역의 중계 무역지로서 문명사적 의의가 있음을 나타내고 있다. 요컨대, 오키나와 지역 주민들이 문화 중개자 역할을 수행하면서 지역의 창조와 혁신을 추진하였음을 강조하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine representation methods of East Asia in Okinawa's history textbook. Okinawa peoples are searching for their identity in a East Asian context. Education for regional identity formation in Okinawa has a intention that students should cultivate a geomentality of East Asia. Representation methods of East Asia have a typicality in the educational contents of prehistoric era and Ryukyu kingdom. First, authors of textbook symbolize Okinawa as a core area of ocean culture in the prehistoric period. Okinawa in the prehistoric era was a open place for human migration and cultural interaction by ocean transportations. Secondly, Ryukyu kingdom had a significance as nodal region in Northeast Asian networks for cultural exchange. Also, Ryukyu was a symbolic place for intermediate trades between Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia. In sum, textbook of research region had a emphasis that Okinawa peoples pursued regional creations and innovations by performing roles as cultural mediators.
