Abstract

The world history teaching in Japan is now oriented to help a l earnerto make images of the world history by himself, by means of tea chinghim to escape from the images inforced by the western world-centeredviewpoint.In the world history teaching, therefore, the East-Asia history is now very important, because it is necessary for the student, as acitizen of the world, to understand the situation of the area(East-Asia)surrounding his country(Japan), including the histories and thevarious ways of life(cultures) of the East-Asian countries. The aim ofthe East-Asia history teaching is to make a student a world citizen to cherish the liberty and peace of his country and the world in r elationwith it.How should be constituted the program of the East-Asia Historyteaching? For periodization, I suggest that it may be divided into two pa rts：modern and contemporary history, and pre-modern history, that is,from the Ancient history to the history just before the modern world.And I think that the following themes are applicable to thatperiodization：1. Interrelationship of the East-Asia of the 4th and the 5th centuries；2. Transition period, the 9th and the 10th centuries, of the Ea st-Asia；3.“Pax Mongolia” (“Peace of Mongols”) in the 13th century；4. The Great Navigation Age of the 15th and the 16th centuries；5. The age of the Envoys from the Chosun Kingdom(the 17th and the 18th centuries); 6. The Age of the western impact; 7. Aggression of the Japanese imperialism and the reactions of the Asian countries; 8. Toward the peace and the coexistence of the East-Asia.
