Abstract
This study aims to develop the components and framework of an AI agent to support teaching and learning in the university Metaverse-based Education Environment (MEE). Although MEE is expected to overcome the limitations of traditional online and offline learning, challenges remain, including limited monitoring of learning activities, ethical issues, and restricted interactions beyond classroom contexts. To achieve this goal, a systematic literature analysis was conducted to draft the AI agent components and a preliminary framework, followed by a three-round Delphi survey with 18 experts in educational technology and platform development to refine it. A usability evaluation was also performed to assess the framework’s practical applicability. The final AI agent framework consists of three domains-functions, platform, and infrastructure-ten subdomains, twenty categories, and ninety-six components. The functions domain focuses on providing personalized services; the platform domain promotes interaction between users and AI agents; and the infrastructure domain specifies the required technologies and systems. Developing such AI agents requires large-scale training datasets, hallucination prevention strategies, and legal and ethical review. The framework validated through usability testing is expected to enhance personalized learning quality and interactivity in the university MEE.
