Abstract
This study analyzed the change in digital divide in Korea as mobile media usage increases. First, we observed the changes in mobile media usage from 2016 to 2018 using latent growth model. By inputting sociodemographic factors into the model, it was found that a “grey divide” still exists. The rapid change in younger generation makes narrowing the gap difficult. Second, we identified the causes of the gap amongst users in their 60s and over through cross-sectional analysis. They had significantly lower usage even with the possession of smartphones, and income level had the greatest influence on the gap. Although the analysis of this study did not reflect the latest data, it confirmed which factors influence digital divide. With regard to social inequality in mobile use, it is hoped that the factors of change will continue to be uncovered by conducting similar analysis in future research.
