Abstract
This paper collects the dragon patterns expressed in the relics of Daegaya and examines its origin and transformation. The main focus of this paper is on where Daegaya's dragon pattern originated, when Daegaya craftsmen used it to produce goods, and how Daegaya's dragon pattern changed. Daegaya's dragon pattern is expressed in the adorned swords and metal fittings for quivers. The dragon pattern of a sword was mainly expressed by casting iron. Many of the dragon patterns are expressed in a set of two dragons. Two dragons pass by facing each other or cross the neck. In some cases, dragon-shaped decorations are inserted into the ring of a sword. The dragon pattern expressed in metal fittings for quivers is numerous and a dragon's posture is characteristic of Daegaya. In Daegaya, the dragon pattern appears around the middle of the 5th century. The dragon pattern expressed on the sword excavated from Hapcheon Okjeon No. 35 is the earliest. Paying attention to the production techniques, it is possible that this sword was made in Baekje and was handed down to Daegaya. Several swords were excavated from Okjeon Tomb No. M3 built in the late 5th century. Among them, a dragon pattern is expressed on four swords. Three of them were made in Daegaya, and one seems to have been made in Baekje. The overall shape of the dragon pattern expressed on the swords is similar, but there is a difference in the technique of expressing the pattern. The dragon pattern expressed on the Daegaya sword in the first half of the 6th century is similar to that of the second half of the 5th century, but some changes are confirmed. It tends to be simplified in detail. In addition, in the first half of the 6th century, dragon patterns are expressed in crafts as well as swords. The dragon pattern of Daegaya has also spread to neighboring countries since the late 5th century. Finished products were handed down to Silla, and patterns and production technologies were handed down to Ara Gaya and Japan.
