국내 체류 외국인 유학생의 재난안전정보에 대한 인식조사 연구 ‒ 신종 코로나19 바이러스 관련 재난안전정보를 중심으로‒

Abstract

This article identifies requisites needed when creating and distributing disaster and safety information by investigating the perceptions of foreign students studying in Korea on disaster and safety information that has been distributed in response to the novel COVID 19 virus. The investigation results confirm the necessity of enhancing the current methods to create disaster and safety information and diversifying its distribution methods. As foreign students gain most of their information and manuals about a disaster from internet, efforts at the school and local government level, such as the production and distribution of disaster manuals and opening of informative sessions, are needed, as was evident in Japan. The information also needs to be offered in a version written in easier-to-understand Korean, which a foreigner who speaks limited Korean can understand, as well as versions translated into multiple languages. This again, was proven in the case of Japan which provided versions of their disaster information in easier-to-understand Japanese. Reflecting on the above situation, the Research Team for the Development of Multilingual Word Translation Services based on Korean Semantics Analysis for Multicultural Families, which is an interdisciplinary research support project, has produced and distributed multilingual word cards for COVID-19 prevention. After analyzing common Korean emergency disaster messages, the word cards offer relevant terminology and make complicated Chinese-character-based Korean words comprehensible in eleven different languages. To offer further disaster damage prevention to foreigners, it is urgently necessary to expand policy support and relevant complementary measures for multilingual support.
