본 연구는 Connelly와 Clandinin(2000)의 내러티브 탐구방법을 활용하여 자살로 배우자와 사별한 유족이 살아온 경험을 탐색하였다. 이를 위하여 자살로 배우자와 사별한 유족 중 만 19세 이상의 성인이며 사별기간이 최소 5년 이상인 4인을 대상으로 질적인터뷰를 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 질적인터뷰 자료는 장소성, 사회성, 시간성의 3차원 공간 틀을 활용하여 분석되었다. 분석결과, 자살로 배우자와 사별한 연구 참여자들의 경험에 대한 의미는 “해일이 들이닥친 곳” (장소성), “생존을 위한 발버둥”(사회성), “표류일기”(시간성)로 구성되었다. 특히, 시간의 흐름에 따라 “적응하며 살아가기”, “매일을 생존하기”, “꿈을 꾸며 살아가기”의 순으로 생존경험을 하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 자살유족 대상의 서비스 마련을 위한 정책적 제언과 자살유족 인식개선을 위한 지역사회 실천방안을 논의하였다.
Abstract
Using the narrative exploration method suggested by Connelly and Clandinin (2000), this study explored the experiences of the bereaved family who had lost their spouses to suicide. For this purpose, qualitative interviews were conducted to collect data from four individuals aged 19 and older, who had experienced spousal bereavement due to suicide for a minimum of five years or longer. The collected qualitative interview data were analyzed using a three-dimensional framework of place, sociality, and temporality. The findings revealed that the meaning of the experiences of participants who had lost their spouses to suicide was composed of three dimensions: “the place where the tsunami stuck” (place), “struggling for survival” (sociality), and “a diary of drifting” (temporality). In particular, it was observed that these survival experiences unfolded over time in the following sequence: “adapting and living”, “surviving each day”, and “living with dreams.” Based on the findings of this study, this study discussed policy implications for establishing services for suicide-bereaved individuals, and practical strategies for improving the perception of suicide-bereaved individuals in the community.
