지그프리트 크라카우어 영화와 역사의 이중적 상보성: 『영화 이론』과 『역사. 끝에서 두 번째 세계』의 이야기 개념 분석을 중심으로

저명한 영화 이론가인 지그프리트 크라카우어는 『역사. 끝에서 두 번째 세계』를 유고로 남겼다. 이 역사서와 그의 맨 마지막에서 두 번째 저술인『영화 이론』사이에 명백한 범주적 괴리가 있는 것처럼 보이지만, 양자간에는 체계적 연결 고리가 존재한다. 본 연구는 바로 이 점을 논증적으로 다루어보고자 한다. 여기에 있어서 특징적인 사유 방법으로 삼고자 하는 착안점은 다음과 같다. 즉 역사가 영화에 대해서 상보적일 수 있는 것만은 아니다. 반대로 영화도 역사에 대해서 상보적일 수 있다. 지그프리트 크라카우어의 전체 형이상학 체계에서 역사와 영화는 각각 무한자와 유한자의 중간 매개항을 이루고 있다. 역사와 영화 사이의 이중적 상보성은 이 둘을 이론적으로 연결시키는 이야기 개념을 통해 재구성 가능하다. 영화에 대한 이야기로서 역사는 그 의 역사론으로부터 도출 가능하다. 이러한 대칭 구도 속에서 반대로 역사에 대한 매체로서 영화라는 관점 또한 도출할 수 있다. 결과적으로 무한자/역사/ 영화/유한자로 이루어지는 이념항들은 크라카우어의 형이상학 체계 안에서 양방향으로 연속된다. 영화와 역사의 이중적 상보성이 성립되는 것이다.
Abstract
The prominent film-theoretician Siegfried Kracauer brought to the world History: The Last Things Before the Last as his posthumous work. It seems that there is a clear categorical discrepancy between this historical book and his second to last writing, Theory of Film. However, there is a systemically connecting link between them. This study specifically approaches demonstratively about this point. Here, the idea points to be used as a characteristic way of thinking are as follows. In other words, not only history can be complementary to film, but also film can also be complementary to history. In Siegfried Kracauer's whole metaphysical system, History and Film constitute an intermediate term between the Infinite and the Finite. The dual complementarity between History and Film could be reconstructed through the notion of Story that theoretically connects the two. The idea of History as Story for Film can be deduced from his Historiology. Also the idea of Film as Medium for History can be deduced. Kracauer’s metaphysical view on Film and History goes to the Infinite starting from the Finite, and vice versa. In the symmetrical constellation, the dual complementarity between Film and History is established.
