경찰의 역할은 우리 사회에서 다방면과 관련이 있는데, 그중 과거에서부터 오늘날까지 이어져 온 것은 범죄 예방과 범죄 진압일 것이다. 범죄 예방과 범죄 진압은 경찰의 사전적 그리고 사후적 활동으로서 시민들의 안전한 삶과 매우 밀접한 관련이 있으며, 공공기관이라는 성격상 시민들의 신뢰가 당연히 존재해야 한다. 특히, 경찰의 다양한 업무 중 법 집행기관이라는 점에서 시민들에게 일정한 제약 등이 있을 수 있다. 이러한 점은 경찰에 대한 신뢰를 감소하게 하는 요소가 될 가능성도 다분히 있다. 경찰의 신뢰 관련 연구의 대부분은 경찰 구성원이 경찰 조직 또는 구성원 간의 신뢰 관계가 대부분이다. 즉 시민을 중심으로 경찰 신뢰에 대한 연구는 매우 미흡한 실정이다. 이 연구에서는 경찰의 역할과 경찰 신뢰 관계에 대해 시민들의 인식을 중심으로 연구를 진행하였다. 일반적으로 경찰 신뢰라고 하면 경찰의 구성원인 경찰공무원과 경찰 조직 모두의 통합적 시각에서 접근하였는데, 이 연구에서는 경찰조직과 경찰공무원의 변수를 독립해서 연구를 진행 하였다. 범죄 예방과 범죄 진압 변수와 경찰 신뢰라는 변수에 경찰공무원이라는 변수의 매개 역할을 살펴보았다.
Abstract
The role of the police has a lot to do with our society. The roles of police are prevention of crime, control of crime, investigation, security, enforcement of counterintelligence operations, collection of security information, traffic control, prevention of danger, and maintenance of order of security. In Korea, In particular, crime prevention and crime suppression are traditional police roles. The role of the police has to do with the safety of citizens. But the role of the police is to impose legal restrictions on citizens. Therefore, the role of the police should be the trust of the citizens. In this study, the role of the police and the trust relationship of the police are recognized by the public. Police trust is generally referred to as the relationship between police organizations and police officers. But in this study, In this study, we approached police officers and police organizations who were members of the police from an integrated perspective. In the variables of crime prevention, crime suppressing variables, and police trust, police officers looked at the role of control and mediation.
