Abstract
Numerous studies related to the scope of police empowerment have shown that the degree of citizen participation and cooperation in police activities can change according to citizens' perceptions of the police organization. This study is also a study related to the scope of police empowerment, and the purpose of this study is to confirm the effect of citizens' trust in the police and their perception of the police role on the scope of police empowerment. In order to conduct the research, 543 citizens of Seoul were surveyed and data were collected and analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the higher the citizen's trust in the police, the wider the scope of police empowerment. However, in this study, the effect of citizens' perception of the police role, which was set as a moderating variable, on the scope of police empowerment could not be confirmed. In a recent study, it was a different result from the fact that the perception of police role as a modulating variable of police visibility had an effect on fear of crime. This proves that the effects of citizens' perceptions of the police role on the police in the normative aspect and the effect in the functional aspect of the police may be different.
