경찰-시민 접촉모델, 지역상황 모델, 개인특성 모델과 경찰에 대한 시민 신뢰: 일반인 및 범죄경력자에 대한 비교를 중심으로

본 연구는 선행연구에서 확인된 경찰 신뢰에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 ‘경찰-시민 접촉요인’, ‘표현적 시각 요인(지역상황 요인)’, ‘도구적 시각 요인’, ‘개인특성 요인’로 재구성하고, 집단(시민 vs. 범죄경력자)에 따른 차별적 영향력을 검증하였다. 337명의 범죄경력자(보호관찰대상)와 347명의 일반인으로 구성된 표본을 활용하여, 집단 간 경찰 신뢰에 대한 영향요인의 차이가 있는지를 검증하였다. 연구 모형은 일반인과 범죄경력자 집단 모형 모두에서 매우 높은 수준의 설명력을 보여줬다. 개별 변수들과 경찰 신뢰의 관계를 살펴 볼 경우, 먼저 경찰신뢰에 대한 영향력이 가장 큰 변수는 양 집단의 모든 모형에서 경찰효과성으로 동일하였으나, 경찰효과성을 제외한 경찰신뢰에 영향을 미치는 요인들은 집단에 따라 완전하게 상이한 것으로 나타났다. 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 범죄경력자의 경찰 신뢰 및 관습 사회로의 적응을 높이기 위한 차별적 접근의 필요성 등 몇 가지 함의를 제시하였다.
Abstract
This study utilized the factors affecting police trust, such as ‘police-citizen contact factors’, ‘expressive visual factors’, ‘instrumental visual factors’, and ‘personal characteristic factors’, which have been identified in the literature and examined the differential influence on the police trust by citizens and criminals samples. Using a sample consisting of 337 criminals (probationers) and 347 general public, it was examined whether there were differences in predictors on police trust between groups. The research model showed a very high level of explanatory power in both the general public and the criminal group model. Looking at the relationship between individual variables and police trust, first, the variable with the greatest influence on police trust was the same as police effectiveness in all models of both groups, but the other factors affecting police trust were completely different from group to group. Based on the results of the study, several implications were suggested, such as the need for a differential approach to increase police trust and adaptation to a customary society of criminals.
