일반 시민의 경찰신뢰에 대한 연구: 순찰, 출동, 검거신뢰에 영향을 미치는 요인을 중심으로

초록

이 연구에서는 일반시민들의 경찰신뢰에 주목하여 대표적인 경찰활동인 순찰과 출동, 검거활동 평가에 영향을 미치는 요인의 차이를 비교하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 ‘전국범죄피해조사 2012’의 20세 이상 성인 12,156명의 응답 자료를 활용하였다. 분석결과, 순찰과 출동, 검거에 대한 평가결과에 영향을 미치는 공통요인과 차별요인이 있음을 발견하였다. 연령대가 높을수록, 삶의 만족도가 높을수록, 범죄두려움이 낮을수록 경찰활동을 긍정적으로 평가하는 집단에 속할 확률이 높았다. 또한, 응답자가 거주하는 지역의 비공식적 사회통제수준이 높을수록 경찰활동에 만족하는 집단에 속할 확률이 높았는데, 이는 순찰과 출동, 검거신뢰에 공통적으로 영향을 미치는 요인이었다. 그러나 범죄피해가 경찰평가에 미치는 부정적인 영향은 검거신뢰에서만 유의하게 나타난 차이가 있었다. 이 연구는 이차자료를 활용한 한계가 있음에도 불구하고, 보다 대표성 있는 자료를 활용하여 일반국민의 경찰신뢰를 출동과 순찰, 검거신뢰로 구분하여 비교분석하고 그 차이점을 밝혔다는데 의의가 있다.

Abstract

While previous studies on public assessment on police have conducted on various aspects of relevant issues, specific police performance have rarely been considered in this line of inquiry. Using data collected from national representative sample, Korean Crime Victimization Survey of 2012(N=12,156), this study assesses whether Korean satisfaction/trust in police are distinguishable along specific performance of police, such as response, patrol, and arrest. Findings show that there are similarities and differences on predictors affecting public assessment on police regarding patrol, response, and arrest activities. In particular, age, quality of life, fear of crime, and level of informal social control of neighborhood significantly affect on the assessment of police performance in common. The negative impact of crime victimization on the assessment of police, however, found significant only on the trust of arrest. Despite limitations to use secondary data, the current study fill the gap in previous studies to examine the similarities and differences between public assessment on major police activities of patrol, response, and arrest with national representative sample.
