Abstract

This study aims to derive evaluation elements and weights for the systematic assessment of industrial craft design and present them as a baseline model for constructing AI training data. Industrial craft is a field that fuses the artistic value of traditional crafts with the practicality of modern industrial design, requiring a domain-specific evaluation system due to its unique characteristics such as material diversity, handcraft nature, and harmony between tradition and innovation. The research methodology integrates a three-round Delphi survey with Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis. The Delphi survey was conducted with 36 experts in the industrial craft field to validate the evaluation elements, and AHP analysis was performed with 15 experts to calculate objective weights. The results identified eight major evaluation elements: aesthetics, form & structure, originality, purpose alignment, functionality, usability, economic efficiency, and ethics, with a total of 16 sub-elements (two per major element). Weight analysis revealed that aesthetics (26.89%) and form & structure (26.05%) had the highest weights, while among sub-elements, aesthetic completeness (18.96%), form (18.37%), and creativity (9.88%) ranked as the top three. This suggests that visual completeness and formal elements are most critically considered in industrial craft evaluation. This study is significant in that it quantified qualitative evaluation in the industrial craft field to establish objective assessment criteria and provides foundational data for developing AI-based design evaluation systems.
