연구목적: 이 연구의 목적은 한 교원(역사교사)의 삶의 여정에서 비롯된 교수경험을 정치적 맥락에서 해석함으로써 한국의 학교교육과 교원에 대한 정치적 중립성을 재개념화 하는 데 있다. 연구방법: 이 연구는 한 교원의 교수적인 삶에서의 정치적 중립성을 조명하기 위하여 생애사 연구를 적용하였다. 또한, 이 연구는 참여자의 내러티브와 문서를 분석하기 위하여 Lieblich, Tuval-Mashiach, & Zilber(1998)의 총체적 내용 접근에 기초하여 연구결과를 도출하였다. 연구결과: 한 교원의 정치적 중립성에 대한 두 가지의 핵심적 주제는 ① 대안적인 교수활동을 통한 역사교육에서의 전문성 및 자주성 추구: “시대정신의 실현”, ② 교원의 정치적 중립성에 대한 재개념화: “규범적 및 법적 개념에서 실천적 개념으로”였다. 논의 및 결론: 이 연구의 결과는 한 교원의 교수적인 삶과 정치적 및 법적 투쟁을 조명함으로써 우리나라의 학교교육 및 교원의 정치적 중립성에 대한 심층적 이해와 더불어, 기존의 정치적 중립성을 재개념화 할 수 있는 촉매제가 될 것이다.
Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this paper was to reconceptualize the political neutrality of schooling and school teacher in Korea through politically interpreting pedagogical experience, which is derived from the life trajectory of a history teacher. Method: This paper applied a life history research to illuminate the political neutrality in the pedagogical story of a school teacher. In addition, this paper analyzed the narratives and documents of the participant via a holistic content approach. Results: Two prominent results in terms of political neutrality of a school teacher are ① a pursuit of professionality and autonomy in history education through alternative educational activities: “realizing zeitgeist”, ② and the reconceptualization on the political neutrality of school teacher: “from normative and legal perspective to practical approach. Conclusion: The results of this paper would be able to be a catalyst to understand and reconceptualize the political neutrality of schooling and school teacher in Korea.
