익산의 지역 극장 이리좌(裡里座)의 문화적 의미와 그 위상 연구

Abstract

In Iksan(Iri) during the Japanese colonial period, Irijwa or Irigeukjang was located. Irijwa founded in the 1910s was located in the downtown area of Iksan built around the railway, and belonged to'Yeongjeong' in the administrative district. Irijwa located in front of Iri station was a theater with the advantages of rail transportation and the benefits of a floating population. Because of these advantages, Irijwa was able to preoccupy a relatively important position in the process of accepting and disseminating content from the area around Iksan. As the local troupes during the Japanese colonial period used the Seoseon route, mainly planning related performances in Gunsan, Iksan, Gimje, and Jeonju, and later planned to perform in the Gwangju area, Irijwa had no choice but to function as a base theater. Naturally, there are traces of various repertoire performed in Irijwa's performance history(a brief history), which confirms the cultural topographical map of Iksan. As such, Irijwa was Iksan's cultural asset and a driving force for cultural growth.
