최적성 추구의 교육목적론적 함의

이 논문은 교육에서 학생들의 최적성을 추구하는 것이 어떤 의미를 갖는 것인지 교육목적론의 관점에서 탐색한다. 교육에서 수월성을 추구하기보다는 최적성을 추구하는 것이 교육적으로 더 설득력이 있다는 주장이 제시된다. 최적성을 추구하는 교육은 아이들이 잘삶을 향유하는 사람으로 살아가도록 돕는 것과 밀접하게 연관된다. 즉, 그것은 아이들이 자신의 가능성을 충분히 발달시키고, 모든 사람에게 선이 되는 역영들을 최적으로 충족하는 사람으로 성장하도록 돕는 교육을 의미한다. 최적성의 추구는 엘리트주의와 강박적인 완전주의에 빠지게 된다는 비판이 제기될 수 있다. 이에 대한 반박으로 특정 영역이 아닌 포괄적이고 균형 잡힌 최적성 추구와 현실적인 완전주의에 대한 논의가 이루어진다. 최적성을 추구하기 위한 교육은 객관적 선에 대한 포괄적 소개와 그것에 대한 학생들의 해석 및 선택이 적절하게 이루어지도록 돕게 된다. 타율적으로 기획된 수월성 교육은 아이들의 내적 동기유발이 쉽지 않고 잘삶의 증진을 담보하기 어렵지만, 최적성 교육은 아이들 스스로 내적 동기유발이 이루어져 탁월성을 추구하고 그것이 자신의 잘삶의 증진으로 이어지게 된다. 이런 최적성 교육은 우리 교육자들에게 학생들의 잘삶의 증진에 대해 숙고해보게 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the concept of the optimum as an aim of education. So far, there are continuous discussions about the excellence and equality of education in our society. However, I argue that optimum is better concept than excellence. Optimizing education is conceptualized as enabling pupils to grow into flourishing persons, that is persons who have developed and are still developing their given potentialities to the full and optimally fulfil the domains that can be said to be objectively good for all people. Two main points of critique about optimizing are elitism and neurotic perfectionism. Then, We need to consider that to pursue ideals within the objective goods is not necessarily elitist. There are several distinct forms of perfectionism. I have a defence of an alternative form of realistic perfectionism. Striving for excellence in one's role as a parent can also serve as a good example of fulfilling the different objective goods. Thus their children are thereby enable to develop themselves to the full. Authoritative parents stimulate children to adopt and pursue ideals they find valuable themselves and will assist them in exploring ideals to discover which ideals they can live from the inside. After all, in this paper, I argue that the pursuit of the optimum and becoming an optimizer should be ideal aims of education. This means that educators aim for the optimal development of their pupils and pupils become intrinsically motivated to strive for their optima too.
