이 글에서는 ‘삶의 의미’를 어떻게 이해해야 하는가를 살펴보고, 그것이 교육과 어떤 관련성을 갖는지 논의한다. 삶은 어떤 의미를 갖는가 혹은 의미 있는 삶이란 무엇인가 라는 질문은 무거운 질문이면서도 회피할 수 없는 근원적 질문이다. 이 질문들에 대한 답은 ‘삶의 의미’를 어떻게 이해하느냐에 따라 논의 방향이 달라질 것이다. 궁극적 의미와 일상적 의미, 혹은 ‘삶의 의미’와 ‘삶에서의 의미’를 개념적으로 구분한 논의들을 살펴본다. 이와 함께 삶의 의미에 관한 몇 가지 관점을 소개하고 대안적인 복합적 관점이 어떻게 가능한지 논의한다. 이런 삶의 의미에 관한 논의는 교육적 논의에 여러 시사점을 주고 있다. 교육과 삶의 의미 간에는 구성적 관계와 정당성 관계, 그리고 기여적 관계가 형성될 수 있다. 삶의 의미에 기여하는 교육이 되기 위해서 교육의 지적인 측면, 정의적 측면에서 고려할 사항들을 논의하고, 교육과정의 문제를 논의한다. 학생들의 삶의 의미에 기여할 수 있는 방향으로 교육과정 개편이나 평가체제의 전환이 이루어질 필요가 있으며, 이것은 곧 학생들의 잘삶을 증진시키는 교육의 일환이기도 하다.
Abstract
In this article, I examine how to understand the meaning of life and discuss how it is related to education. The questions of what does life mean or what is meaningful life are heavy questions but inescapable fundamental ones. The answers to these questions will vary depending on how we understand the meaning of life. This study examines the discussions that conceptually distinguish between the ultimate meaning and ordinary meaning of life, or the meaning of life and meaning in life. In addition, I introduce some perspectives on the meaning of life and discuss how alternative hybrid perspective is possible. The constitutive relation, the justificatory relation, and the contributory relation can be formed between education and the meaning of life. In relation to education with the meaning of life, I discuss the cognitive and affective aspects of education and discuss the issues of the curriculum. It is necessary to reorganize the curriculum or to change the evaluation system in a way that can contribute to the meaning of students' lives, which is also part of education that promotes students' well-being.
