이 글은 기억에 관한 베르그손의 논의와 기호에 대한 들뢰즈의 논의를 중심으로 자신만의 고유한 삶을 살아가도록 하는 교육이란 무엇인지 제시하고, 이를 통해 어떤 존재가 될 수 있는지 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 글에 따르면, 우리는 자기-교육을 수행해야 한다. 자기-교육이란 이미지-기억을 불러와 자신만의 삶의 리듬을 계속해서 생성하기 위해 노력하는 과정 그 자체이다. 그러나 자기-교육은 일상에서 흔히 이루어지는 관리-훈육에 의해 끊임없이 방해받는다. 이러한 상황에서 자기-교육을 실천하기 위해서는 기호와의 만남이 이루어져야 한다. 기호는 의미의 해석을 강요하며, 이를 통해 무심히 잊고 있던 과거의 어느 기억이 자신만의 삶의 리듬을 생성하도록 만드는 교육적 사건임을 깨닫게 한다. 기호라는 계기와 기억이라는 소재를 통해 자기-교육을 실천할 때, 비로소 나다운 삶의 역사를 수립할 수 있다. 이 순간 우리는 잃어버린 교육적 사건들을 되찾으며 끊임없이 새로운 삶의 리듬을 생성하는 교육인의 삶을 살게 된다. 프루스트는 이와 같은 삶의 모습을 『잃어버린 시간을 찾아서』에서 감동적으로 그려내고 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present what education can be to live one's unique life, focusing on Bergson's discussion of memory and Deleuze's discussion of signs, and to reveal what kind of being we can become through this education. According to this article, we must practice self-educating. Self-educating is the process of recalling image-memory and continuing to generate one's rhythm of life. However, self-educating is constantly distracted by the supervision-discipline that is commonly imposed on our daily lives. In this situation, signs must be encountered in order to practice self-educating. A sign forces us to interpret its significance, which makes us realize that a certain memory of the past that we have carelessly forgotten is an educational event that makes us generate our own rhythm of life. When we practice self-educating through the sign of the moment and the memory of material, we can establish the history of our own lives. At this time, we live the life of a man of education who constantly generates a new rhythm of life by regaining lost educational events. Proust movingly portrays this type of life in In Search of Lost Time.
